The Saskatchewan Broomball Association (SBA) is pleased to announce that the 2016 World Broomball Championships has been awarded to Regina. The World Championship has the potential to attract 55 or more registered teams in Male, Female, Masters and Co-ed divisions with over 1,000 athletes travelling to attend the five-day competition.
President of the SBA, Don Black said, “The Saskatchewan Broomball Association is honored to be chosen to host the 2016 World Championships in Regina.”
The economic impact of hosting the 2016 World Broomball Championships is estimated at just under $4 million dollars with over 4,500 room nights booked in Regina’s hotels. The tradition of the World Broomball Championships occurs every two years, with the most recent World Championship taking place in Japan. Countries now participating in the sport include Canada, USA, Australia, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, Russia, England and India.
“Right now, the Saskatchewan Broomball Association is in the early planning stages of this major event. We know that corporate sponsorship for events is prominent in Regina and that our city has capable volunteers that work tirelessly to ensure that events run smoothly. We hope both the corporate and volunteer communities will come out to support the 2016 World Broomball Championships,” said Black.
“We were very happy to work with the Saskatchewan Broomball Association and the Regina Hotel Association to bring this prestigious event to Regina. Co-operators Centre is a dynamic, state of the art venue well equipped to host the World Championships,” said John Lee, President and CEO of Tourism Regina.

The partnership has been instrumental in bidding on and securing major events for the city including the Juno Awards, BMO Skate Canada Challenge, Canadian Gymnastics Championships, Canoe/Kayak Sprint National Championships, Ford World Men’s Curling Championships, and a long list of many more prominent events.
